2013 Annual Campaign

2013 AC Donate 25 or More

The 2013 Annual Campaign patch highlights Girl Scouts’ focus on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). Girl Scouts is answering the nation’s call to engage more youth in STEM because STEM workers drive our nation’s innovation and competitiveness by generating new ideas, new companies and new industries. Yet today women hold about 25% of STEM positions even though the majority of college graduates are women and nearly half make up the country’s work force.

How will your donation help in this effort?

  • It will create more opportunities for girls to engage in STEM activities. Research shows most girls want to change the world (88%) and help people (90%) but do not see how STEM helps them achieve their aspirations. As a result they do not pursue STEM careers. Research also tells us girls’ interest in STEM increases with greater exposure to STEM fields.
  • It will help girls achieve academic success. Research shows that girls who gain experience in problem solving and seeking challenges in Girl Scouting are more successful in school. We also know that girls interested in STEM fields are higher achievers and better students.

How will your donation be used?

  • While volunteers understand the importance of working with girls to encourage their interest in STEM, understandably many often feel daunted by the challenge. Donations will help bring resources to volunteers. This includes, but is not limited to designing trainings that better support the use of “It’s Your Planet, Love It!” journeys, creating STEM experiences at camps, and forging partnerships with mentors and organizations that can assist with STEM-focused program activities.
  • One of Girl Scout’s greatest legacies is being a sister to every Girl Scout. Donations will also help support girls who might not participate in Girl Scouting because their family income is near or below the federal poverty level. Offering financial assistance to girls makes Girl Scouting a reality in their lives.

Please be part of changing the world for girls by donating to the 2013 innovate! Annual Campaign.
