Over 9000 veterans are interred at Hawaii State Veterans Cemetery in Kaneohe. Each year less than half of the veterans are honored with a lei for Memorial Day. Throughout the years, the number of veterans has increased and the number of lei has decreased.

The Lei of Aloha event will be held on May 25, 2013, at Windward Mall Center Stage from 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. The purpose of the Lei of Aloha is to bring the community together to honor the fallen heroes that made the ultimate sacrifice in fighting for our country and our freedom. The public is invited to bring loose flowers to sew lei and talk with outreach organizations that support the military, the veterans, and their families, such as the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Elks Club.

Thank you,
Marissa L.
