An opportunity for new, soon-to-be new, and not-so-new drivers to learn basic auto safety techniques and explore possible career opportunities in the automotive industry. This is a Mother and Daughter event (although girls are welcome to attend without their mothers) for Cadettes and older. Topics covered in this program will accomplish 2 steps toward the Senior Car Care Badge. Attendees will receive goodies including a GSUSA patch.
Identify major parts under the hood – what fluids go where; why they’re important; dos and not to dos under the hood. Tire safety – why it’s important; choosing the correct tire; checking tire pressure; what’s the right tire pressure for your car. Dashboard gauges and dials – what do all these things mean anyway?
Basic car care techniques – keeping your vehicle safe and on the road. Roadside safety – what should you carry. What to do if you break down; to pull over or not to pull over when you’re pulled over. Jump starting your car without blowing yourself or the engine up; Simple do it yourself fixes. Being a savvy consumer – how not to get ripped off at the repair shop. Automotive careers – girls can do it too!
