Hawaii Environmental Education Symposium: July 14 – 15

Celebrate the World Wide Voyage at the Hawaii Environmental Education Symposium July 14-15. Mālama Honua – Excellence in Environmental Education.

Discover new and updated curriculum, partner with local initiatives, and collect resources for your programs and/or classroom.  Learn more about how to crosswalk resources with Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards and how to improve your programming and ability to connect schools and community.

Register at: http://heeasymposium2014.eventbrite.com.  Keeping it below cost to support community-wide participation, the cost is $40 for each day or $75 for both days. Registration includes access to all resources, all talks, lunch, snacks, and Oma’oma’o Pau Hana.

Opening presentations

  • Ka Hei  Overview- Innovative Energy Technology and Education for Hawaii’s schools
  • Miki Tomita, PVS- Worldwide Voyage & update – Linking the WWV and education
  • Keynote: Dr. Bora Simmons, Founding Director & Senior Research Associate, National Project for Excellence in Environmental Education

Concurrent Sessions: 

  • Using Technology To Enhance EE: The effective use of technology to advance learning about the environment both inside and outside
  • Creating Sustainable Communities: The role of education in achieving environmental integrity, economic prosperity, and social equity
  • Green Pathways: The role of environmental programs in preparing students for careers in green jobs

Resource Roundtables and Closing with the Keiki from the My Hawaii Story Project. 

  • Day 2: Professional Development Workshop- Excellence in Environmental Education.  Led By Dr. Bora Simmons and Andree Walker-Bravo. 

This is the first time this training will take place in Hawaii!!  At the Excellence Guidelines Training, participants will receive both training and copies of the modules from the National Project for Excellence in Environmental Education.
